flatbed scanner install onto a NT machine

I'm trying to use a leftover Win NT machine to install a parallel port flatbed scanner for saving misc. paper work in my shop at work. The problem comes when installing the scanner software; it installs ok but when complete it says can't find the scanner. After looking at the help section of the software it says to log in as administrator. Since I don't have the admin password, am I going to have to reload NT or is there another solution?

scanner: Microtek Slimscan C3
computer: Gateway 400

Thanks
