enermax 2 fan psu problems

i ll giv my specs first

abit nf7s , athlon2200 , maxtor60gb,
aopen gf4 ti4200 128mb , 265 ddr.
aopen hq08 full tower case.
i bought an enermax 350 watt yesterday . Its the model with 2 fans and the 'adjustable fan control' . I also got a thermaltake 60mm fan.
the psu has the second fan above the cpu, so it sucks air away on top, the 60mm is in the back, at the same heigth as the psu, at about 5 cm, also sucking out.

At first i didnt connect the second fan of my psu. (didnt know it needed extra power) and my system ran at 46-53°c
(idle - in game). When i realized the second fan didnt work, i connected it to my mobo (have 2 extra headers) .

I booted my pc after this, and it ran to 65° in a few minutes ! This absolutely not what i want.

What could be the cause of this? did i create some sort of a vacuum around my cpu, so it got hot? , did the cpu fan slow down too much or so? What would be the best solution for me? Using the 2 psu fans and not the thermaltake back fan? Or is it safe not to use the second psu fan and keep it like its now
(45-53°c for a 2200 isnt bad i think)

I also have room for a 80mm in the bottom front, but the cable is too short, still need to get that sorted out.
if its safe for the psu not to connect the second fan, i think ill keep it as it is now.

ps, i kept the fan speed at 2/3 to full,
does this make much difference?

You shouldn't have to connect a PSU fan to an outside power source for it to function...the PSU fans get their power internally. The wires you connected to the motherboard are only for RPM monitoring. Are you sure the fan isn't working with those wires disconnected from the motherboard?

Are you sure the heatsink is installed properly?

Where are you getting the temp readings from? The BIOS or a Windows based temp utility?

well i also thought that psu fans got their own power, but in the enermax manual it notes that i have to connect the extra cable for the second fan to work.

When the cable was attached, my cpu ran to 65° very quickly, (i set up bios alarm to 65°), so my temp readout was in bios yes
(i use abit HW doctor in windows currently, im looking for something better)

im pretty sure the rest of the pc is ok,
i ran it for about a week with a 'crap"
300w psu, and it ran perfectly fine at 52-55 degrees.

can anyone tell me if my idea about to much air being drawn from the cpu fan so it got hot because of that.
Or is this not possible?

btw it has been on a lot in the last few days and now it runs at 43 - 53 °
so if it is totally safe not to connect the extra cable, ill leave the pc as it is now.
these temps are good enough for a system like this, no?
Would i be able to get em lower trough air cooling?

i would say ...let it work in the way it works best....
i asked one at the firm i worked for..(veldeman to u!)
He told me that u could make the cpufan run slower when fans are too close to it...he said that u may have to put down the psufan's rpms...so ..slow it down...but then again, like also he agreed,..then the psu will run hotter..so u got to comprimise...i guess it's better to run ur cpu like u it have now ...he said u can try to disable the 60mm fan..but he told me it wouldn't do much....
He says it has to do alot with the built of ur case.....so maybe this case isn't really forseen for so much cooling...(i mean the airflow of the case)

Cricket, i just checked out my pc with a flashlight and the second psu fan is indeed working w/o the little cable attached. So that's my mistake.
What i find so strange then is, why did my temps go up that fast when the monitor cable was attached? ive been running it w/o the cable for the last day and no overheating problems have arisen anymore. the highest temp in game so far
is 53.5°c (abit hw doctor).
Did i make a mistake with the speed controller? i dont know anything about this thing and i keep it at 2/3 to max most of the time.
if all runs stable, can i keep it as it is now?
(since second psu fan is working)

Since your computer is running nice and stable, just leave it as is.

I really don't know why your CPU temps went up so much with the RPM sensor wire connected.
