stupid mistake
Man, I blew it. I went to add some RAM to my girlfriends computer, and I looked at it but not real close, wish I would of. Anyway, it's 168pin, so I go and buy a stick of 128MB PNY PC 133 memory, but when I go to put it in, yep you guessed it, it didnt fit.
Her computer is kind of old and it takes those 168pin memory strips that are not PC133/PC100/PC66, like I said they are 168pin, but the notches are off by just a little bit, so little that if you didnt know better you would maybe try and force it in there. How is Best Buy about giving a refund for memory that has been opened? I'll find out soon enough cause I'm going to try and return it in the morning. I would use it for my own system but I have allready filled up all my memory slots and have no place to put it. Live and learn, but somehow I think maybe I have made this mistake before, but because I was probably able to take it back, I dont remember making it.

I dont know if best buy will take it back honestly. But as for the fitting problem, I think you need to check it again and make sure you cant really just force it in. Memory requires you to force it basically. Sometimes i have to take a break while fitting memory. Try rocking back and forth like fifty times, no joke.

It could be 168 pin EDO memory.

What board does she have? Go to Crucial.com and they will tell you exactly what ram is compatible with it.
Don't be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes.

I think Cricket is right, cause if you take out a stick thats in it and line it up with the PC133 the notches are off by just a bit. The computer is a powermac 8500, but I have seen the same thing on older PC's back in the early socket 7 days.

Cricket, I think you mean 168 pin. I have seen the apple site with the specs for this machine many times, all it says for the memory is:
Memory RAM Slots: 8, 168-pin DIMM Min - Max RAM: 16 MB - 512 MB Min RAM Speed: 70 RAM Sizes: 8, 16, 32, 64 MB Install in Groups of: 1 Notes: 128MB DIMMs can be used, but have not been tested thats it |

Have you looked at that website I provided the link to? It mentions 168 pin FPM or EDO RAM for the PowerMac 8500...that's totally different from SDRAM. Cricket
