cpu

does a motherboard auto detect the mhz of the processor weather it's say 800mhz or say 1.2g

Yes, the motherboard will see the processor as long as the Front Side Bus speed is correct. Because the motherboard uses an exquation FSBxMultiplier=Speed, the FSB speed needs to be correct. New Athlon motherboards need to be set to 133 rather then 100, otherwise the cpu runs too slow.
