Unhappy asus a7n26-vm/lan/aa

Aaack!

I can't get the sound up on this, I downloaded the XP drivers from the asus site.

The loudest it gets is a bit above a whisper.

Any advice?

Thanks!

First check to make sure you've enabled the sound in the BIOS. Next, check your sound settings (Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices) and make sure the volume is up and the speaker settings correspond to what type of speakers you have. Are you getting a little yellow question marks in the Hadware properties page? Did you have another sound card installed before you started using the onboard sound?

yep, everything is as you suggest. I might pull the sound card off the old computer and install it. Anyway to find out if others are having this problem?

Is there a jumper for base audio? What I mean is often a mobo or sound card may have a jumper to disable the onboard audio power amp. That way you can send "line level" sound to an amp.
Or, if you are running "unpowered" speakers, running with the onboard audio amp will be best. Perhaps your settings are wrong?
Something to think about.

I believe you have to use powered speakers with that rig - passive speakers won't work.

The build that I had with that mobo was used with "amplified" speakers and they sounded loud enough.

Amplified speakers are "powered" speakers. They have a power cord which connects to your A.C. supply.

Ok, sometimes the problem is right in front of my face. I have an extension that runs from the speakers to the back of the computer. It wasn't plugged in all the way, and sound was coming from only one speaker. Thanks all for helping me out!
