assus "pc probe"

i'm using a a7n8x deluxe motherboard with xp pro pro. My question is do you people that use this mobo have a slow start up ?. here is my situation,the computer post up,windows desktop comes on(still good) then a window pops up for pc probe then goes right away.Here is the SLOW part, pc probe is running in the back ground and takes about 1/12 to 2 minutes for the pc probe to appear in my notification bar,so during that time i have to wait to log on the INTERNET and other programs,my computer just sets there and does nothing until the "pc probe" icon appears.Is this normal,and do you people use this utility "pc probe". i've went to "msconfig" and disable it on start up but didn't help. i guess my next step is to un-install this program and not use it.

the next time that window pops up, be ready for it because there is a check box in the bottom left corner that will stop it from comming up, also if it is running in the background , just go to the task bar and then click on exit to turn it off.

There is an option in the Settings window of the program. Simply uncheck the box that says "Auto-execute Asus Probe in each boot-up session." That should take care of the problem of it loading on startup.

it is more accurate, buggs fixed

Works fine for me, just uncheck the slash sceen on startup.

Yes,and also sandra! Could be lucky or an anomalie.

My probe never gives the same temps as the BIOS. The BIOS gives consistently lower temps than does the probe.

that bites, the probe worked great in my a7n266 nforce 1 board.

were did you find this? i looked on assus web site and didn't find it.

also i removed pc probe and turned off all programs off on start up.rebooted my pc and when i try to access the internet or other programs it still hangs up until one to 1,1-1/2 minutes then it works.any ideas

well i'm bringing back this post because, i finally found my problem on the hangup i'm having after desktop comes up.It's my dsl modem that doing it,so another question is why would a modem cause this hang up? I don't know to much on how a modem works so if someone could shed some light on this i would appreciate it. I know one thing when it's turned off i get a quick reboot time. I did tweak win. xp for this,when windows starts i get (1) xp bar on my screen and windows pop's up.

What type of DSL do you have and how is it connected? If it's PPPoE ADSL (requires a logon similar to a dialup connection) through a NIC card, you can go into network connections, find the one for the NIC, open its properties and uncheck TCP/IP (or assign it a static private IP address such as 192.168.0.1). It doesn't use TCP/IP directly, it uses PPPoE - and if TCP/IP is checked and it's set to use DHCP (which is default), it sits there trying to find something to assign it an IP address - and that something doesn't exist.

well you were right on the money on that one,i followed what you said and it seems to work. yes i do have a PPPoE ADSL dsl. so by doing what you said in normal words what does that do ? i would guess it would use only (1) ip address instead a different one each time i reboot or log on my dsl.

With PPPoE, the IP address is assigned at logon by the system and everything goes through that. The NIC card doesn't require TCP/IP to work, the PPPoE adapter is separate, just like the dialup adapter if you are using 56k. What's happening is this - on bootup, if DHCP is enabled on the NIC, it's sitting there querying the DSL modem for an IP address, and the modem is just sitting there playing dumb because it doesn't HAVE a DHCP server in it to assign the IP address. Windows will finally time out after a couple of minutes and press on. Disconnect the modem and Windows senses that nothing is connected to the NIC, and it presses on because it knows it can't get an IP.
