HD with 10 partitions cannot recognize CD ROM
Hi
I have a Quantum 20.5 GB AT Fireball hard drive and am going to install it in a Compaq 200 MHz computer. I have 10 partitions because the Bios will not recognize larger than 2 gig. When I boot the computer will only recognize the 10 partitions and not my two CD ROMs. How can I get it to recognize at least 1 of the CD ROMs Thanks in advance Bob |

What are you using for a bootdisk? Does it have CD drivers? As for the 10 partitions, do yourself a huge favour and get a Promise Ultra controller (they're cheap) and run a single partition.

o my, i wouldnt quite recommend 10 partitions, but have you tried downloading the latest drivers?
by updating your firmware, you might be able to use the drive with going over 2gb. |

Are you connecting to a network? (With network drives?) With that many drive letters, it may be possible that there is a conflit between your drive letters and the network drive letters.

I don't understand "doesn't recognize". Do you mean you do not "see" them in "my computer" or explorer?
If so, and you are running Win9x, there are two ways to have them display. 1. edit config.sys files add a line that is: lastdrive=z. save the file and reboot. or 2. if you have tweakui, run it and select the "my computer" tab and check the drive letters you need to see. not much....good luck. |
