Boom Case is making me pull my hair out!

I have my old 700 mhz celeron & mobo sitting around, decide to throw it in a case, give it to somebody. Go buy a new case, hooked it all up, didn't work.
Today, went back to store with case. They told me power supply working, but gave ame a new case all the same.
Got it home, hooked it up again, still, no power going to system.
I tried 2 other motherboards in the new case, and neither worked. I put the 700 celeron in my PC's case, and it worked fine. The connections are good. I switched everything on.
I know my hookups are correct, got the manual
What else could it be????
I really don't want to go back and have them tell me the power supply in this case is fine too. What am I missing?

Sometimes there is a switch on the back of the power supply. Check to see if it is turned on.

Also are there any lights on the motherboard that indicate that power is being applied? If there is does it come on?

I know that switch, and have switched it on.
There is no signal anything is working. No lights, no anything. like it's not even plugged in. No power at all. And the people at the store keep telling me it's fine. I've tried just hooking up the power switch, but it still doesn't work.

Are your power button leads connected to the motherboard? If they are, unplug the PSU lead from the wall and leave it on. Then hit the power. This should discharge any power floating around. Plug it back it and try to boot up.

At least, this is what I've been doing with my faulty PSU.

if you do end up taking it back, ask to watch them test it to make sure you see that it's working.

I'd bet that you have extra standoffs under the board that are shorting the board out.

I agree with glc...something is shorting the motherboard to the case, most likely a stray standoff.

I'll go with that, check your stand offs 1st.

That is also a great tip, get the store to let you watch them power the PSU up.

Put a small mark with permanant pen inside the case (discreatly), that way you can check if they are giving you the same on back, put 1 on the PSU as well incase all they do is swap it to a different case.

thanks to glc, Cricket and kissfan. I started up the mobo outside of the case, worked fine. this time, I placed 2 sets of plastic dividers under each screw connecting mobo to case. works like a charm now. thanks all.
