My CPU is running at 59 Degrees Celsius!

Should I begin to worry, I posted a thread about temps the other day and people were saying its ok if around 60 but mine is running at 59 degrees celsius very close to this threshold and my mobo temp is 35 degrees

Asus A7V333
AMD Athlon 2100+ with standard fan and heatsink
Plus got a case fan

Should I put some more heatsink paste on my chip? I remember when I was building it I was a bit tight with the old paste. Would this help?

Thanks

No, don't put more thermal compound...that will inhibit thermal transfer and your temps will actually go up.

Double check that the heatsink is installed correctly...recessed portion of the heatsink is over the raised part of the socket. Metal clip makes contact with the heatsink directly over the CPU die/core. Nothing around the socket is interferring with the heatsink (like a capacitor). Fan spinning okay?

Where do you have the case fan installed? If you only have one case fan, install it on the back blowing out.

The case fan is on the back blowing out, just below the power supply and level with the CPU and its heatsink and fan?

Just rebooted and checked temp was at 56.5 , should I just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't go over 60 , should I maybe invest in an extra case fan?

If your system is stable and not locking up all the time, you may have nothing to worry about.

If it does freeze and lockup all the time, then you have to do something about it. First thing I'd do is check that the heatsink is installed properly (before rushing out to buy another heatsink). If you have a lot of thermal compound on there, try using less...you could get better heat transfer that way.

I'm not sure about 59degrees and how bad that is as far as typical CPU temps but the last time I built an AMD machine and used the stock HSF on the CPU it ran around 45 and after putting a better HSF on there it dropped about 5 or 6 degrees

Cool

Last AMD system I built the retail XP1700 was running 60C which according to AMD site should be OK. Me being old school I said bye bye to warranty and put on a different HSF using AS. Got temps to a more respectable 46C.

My OEM XP1600 with a big Alpha Pal 8045 with a low RPM 80mm fan runs 40C.

Room is quite warm, I think I will keep an eye on it and turn my radiator down or off and see how i get on, the motherboard temp is around 35 - 38 degrees.

Its quite near the window I think I need to move it by the sounds of it, although my temps aren't life threatening their still quite high and just as a precautionary measure I'll move it!! Cheers everyone who has contributed, excellent info.

don't forget that there are differences in temp sensors in mobos. I've build identical (down to memory and software) systems using the A7V333 and one would run in the mid-40°s and another would run around 60° plus. These are side by side temps on identicla systems under same conditions.

The one that is showing 60°+ degrees is still running quite well and the client is still very happy. and the system was build a while ago, shortly after Asus released the mobo.

There is nothing wrong with the AMD supplied HSF's, they are reasonably quiet, and do the job they are intended for.

If the HSF came with the CPU then any use of thermal compound ora different HS will invalidate the 3 year AMD warranty.

I know I'm a bit late to this thread, but have you checked to be sure your HSF has a good contact patch with the CPU? Bending the clips back may tighten it up if your HSF is loose. Just a thought...
