getting a new pc!

Hello!

A while back I added a new WD 60GB HDD to my old PC because it only had 6 gigs to start with. I use it to store photos, music & videos, while the original 6 gigs holds the OS (WinXP home)

I have now ordered a new PC and would very much like (!) to install my 60gig into it. I'm hoping that I won't need to reformat and partition it, and therefore keep all the data which is on it. It's either that or an awful lot of CD-Rs!

Can anyone confirm this for me? It seems logical to me, but I'm really not an expert and there is bound to be some reason why the new PC won't like the old HDD. (The new PC is also going to run Win XP home)

I just want them to get along!

You'll be able to put that drive from your old PC in the new as a slave drive and will be good to go. Open up the side off the new PC and find the ribbon type cable that feeds to the harddrive, There should be a empty connector in the middle of that cable. That is where to connect 2nd drive to. It has a little jumper though on the drive itself that will need to be set to CS and you may end up having to check the exixting HD also to be sure the little jumper is set to CS... Other than that you just have to mount the drive in there somewhere and the cable has to fit in to both drives and you don't want the cable to be all twisted up..When turning PC on for the first time with new drive installed, if it doesn't detect the new drive the first time you would just have to enter BIOS setup and set master slave IDE channel to AUTO, then you'll be good to go...

I did kind of expect that to be the answer. At the moment the 60gb is the slave, so that won't need to change.

EDIT: I didn't really notice that you already have the skills to add second HD to sys, just do like you did before, and I suppose you were just wondering if it would work cause of going into a different PC, well it will be fine and should work like a charm...
