WD 120Gb or Seagate 120 Serial ATA 7200rpm ?
BestBuy had the WesternDigital Special Edition 120Gb @ 8Mb rpm7200 for 80 $.so i got one...it turned out dead so i went back to switch it..they dint have any WD @ 120gb...so i picked up a SeaGate Serial ATA 120Gb @ rpm 7200 ATA 150 @ 8Mb cache
Basically am asking if this was a great switch or not? Or was I better off with the WD? Also, what would I need from newegg.com to use this drive? I have..well probably had an MSI Kt3 Ultra-Aru mobo which is @ MSI Corps coz its dead.. i fried it..so they willl either fix it or replace it with the same model..which i doubt..or present me with a similar or better model... So was I better off with the WD or not? Any suggestions? Coz i think i can get another WD 120gb 8mb HD. thanks

If your motherboard doesn't support serial ATA, you'll need to get a serial ATA controller card.

brassman, that I know ..thanks !
Well not neccesarily a card.. i guess an adapter that hooks up to the ide port on the existing one on the mobo..but does it descrease the drives performance compared to a regular pci card for sata Last edited by CorruptedSanitY; 05-15-2003 at 05:02 PM. |

You might be better off getting a new WD, just for ease of use. If you want to use the SATA drive you have, youll need one of these http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...Logic+MegaRAID to connect it.HTH

Actually this one u showed is for raiding also.. theres another one for roughly 50 w/ free shipping..comes with an IDE port on it also...
But then again what ease of use are you talking about? :\ i never found movin the jumper from slave to master or CS very challenging lol...physically they are the same..well on the contrary..the SaTa are easier since they dont have a bulky caBle.. |

I know it is described as RAID, but it will function simply to give you SATA support, since it is not built into your motherboard. This card will work as well: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...ata150+TX2plus
The ease of use I was talking about is just avoiding having to spend $50+ on a special card just to use the new hard drive. Either drive will work just fine, but the WD wouldnt need a card to be bought, to be used. |

ahh you meant financially.. yah I agree with you..but money right now isnt a problem...thanks ! ALso keep in mind..i had the WD120JB for 80 $..then i exhcnaged it for the SATA Seagate for same price (: |

Vlad..actually my current board does not have SATA ports...... technically speaking my board is on the \/\/est coast now.. it got burnt while installing the previous WD120JB..so i sent it out for repair/exhange and also exchanged the WD for SeaGates..assuming MSI will replace my msi kt3 Ultra-Aru with something mroe up to date..if not..then ill either buy an ASUS n78 delxue or buy SaTa PCI card ..

Either that or you sell the Seagate and take the profits to buy yourself both a new mobo and a new 80gb hard drive
