Question Adding Second HD

I am going to add a WD 600bb hard drive to my Dell 8200 with XP Home Edition. The existing HD is 40GB. I plan to use the WD600 as a slave drive to store digital pictures. Should I run into any problem

Nope, just make sure your jumper settings are correct.

Are you going with NTFS or FAT32? Keep in mind that Win98 and ME cannot see NTFS Drives . .

Dells use cable select - just jumper the drive to CS and put it on the middle connector on the IDE cable. Boot it up into XP and use Disk Management to partition and format it.

Adding second HD

I have XP and it has NTFS . Yhe drive came with a Data Lifeguard Tools floppy that they tell you to use to set up the new HD. Should I use it?

Personally, I don't use it, there is really no need to.

Hi William,
For disk management just right-click on 'My Computer' and scroll down to 'Manage'.

You'll see 'Storage' as a menu option. Underneath the 'Storage' option you'll see 'Disk Management'.

Just highlight that and away ya go ah la NT!! Hehe

Here's a little guide for installing a second HD in XP. It's from Maxtor - but the procedure from within XP is the same for most HDs.
