Help with DVD+RW Drive Compatibility
I have a Dell system with a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A. The Dell came with Easy CD Creator 5 Basic. I downloaded a trial of RecordNow Max and it is saying that it isn't compatible with my drive. Any thoughts on this. I am trying to make a backup of a DVD I just bought, would Nero work instead, or am I better off just sticking with Easy CD Creator?

Actually making a copy of a DVD you own is fine, it's the same principle of making a copy of a CD so you can have one in the house and one in the car.
Anyways, commercially pressed DVDs can go up over 7 gigs, while your DVD burner can only burn 4.3 gigs. It's not a simple "rip and burn" like CD burning is. It can be done, however. If you've got the patience to sift through the info there are guides at http://www.doom9.org |

I have a guide for the process, it involves changing the bitrate so it will fit on a 4.3 gig DVD. The problem I have is when I go to burn the reduced size file to the DVD. The guide I have recommends RecordNow Max. When I start it up, the program says it could not find a compatible drive. Is it as simple as it just not being compatible? Or is there something I can do that will help.

Have you checked the RecordNowMax website for updates for your burner?

The drive is on the compatibility list at Stomp's site, unless Dell maybe has some proprietary firmware in it.

Is there a primary burning software that the drive looks for when I put a blank in? I also heard from somewhere that there were problems with having RecordNow if Easy CD was already on your comuter. I'll try to dump Easy CD and install RecordNow Max again. I used a guide to burn a backup of a DVD and got the following results:
-Plays perfectly on my computer -Does not play on my Playstation2 -Opening "Dreamworks" intro plays, then it quits out. |
