things just don't add up, ram part 2
Thanks to everyone's help and months of research I am very close to buying the parts for my first build but am stuck on ONE thing, what 32x64 means in ram. It was already explained to me an another thread but the math just doesn't add up. example:
Apacer ---512MB--- DDR PC2700 RAM ---32X64--- Infineon Chipset CL=2.5 - OEM 184-Pin, DDR333 (notice 512 meg stick has 32x64, other sticks of 512 have 32x8 for pc3200, the math isnt adding up at all...) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...tby=14&order=1 yet it was explained to me that 32x64 was 256 megs and 64x64 was 512 "No, 32x64 is 256mb, 64x64 is 512mb. Divide the second number by 8 then multiply by the first number to get the total capacity. If it's x72 divide by 9 because that's ECC ram with a parity bit. 8 bits is a byte." qoute from GLC above. Can you please help and explain further glc? what am I not getting? thanks, almost ready to buy |

Why are you starting a new thread? Please reply to the original thread!
If you see 32x8, that means that each chip is 32x8 (making each chip 32mb), and the module has 16 chips on it for a total of 512mb. If it's saying that a 512mb module is 32x64, it's a double banked module, 256mb each bank. |
