Good DVD drive speed?
Hi
I was thinking about getting a DVD drive? What is the lowest speed I can get to watch movies, so it's not choopy and it's runs normal like the DVD should? Also what are some good brands of DVD drives? Thanks Joe.A+ |

16x seems to be most common. I 've had a Samsung for almost 2 years. It works fine.

I used to have a Creative 12X and it played the movies smoothly before it went south.
I have an LG 16X now and it plays like a champ. The only problem is that it's pretty new and there isn't an RPC-1 firmware for it yet.

All you need is 1X to play movies, that's all it runs at anyway with a movie. Faster drives only help you with data transfer, it's just like a CD drive, an audio CD runs at - 1X!

16x48x DVD-ROM drives have been around for quite some time and it doesn't look like there will be faster drives in the near future. Get LiteOn, LG or Pioneer, they make good drives.
