Fan...exhaust or intake?

I picked up an Antec SmartFan today for my new Antec1080 to compliment the included 3 SmartFans as a front intake. I'm wondering though if a constant rate fan would work better for an intake rather than the SmartFan with its speed adjustment based on temp...?

I think the smartfan is better. That way when your going to bed or something and you leave you comp on you wont hear a roaring fan.

I dont think you will notice a performance difference or anything...

So you think it's alright to have a slower intake rate at some points then at others? Then again I guess some people run em with no intake at all...

Unless you see an effect on stability or performance, I wouldnt even worry about.

Do whatever gives you piece of mind

It's perfectly fine. Your computer would probably work fine with out any fans at all, so if you are just slowing down some of them and lowering the airflow, nothing should be wrong with that. =)

Well, then I guess I should ask how much one fan in front for intake is going to help with temps anyway? I could spend the $20 on somethin else...

I'd spend the money on something else. I've pulled all my front fans and also don't bother installing them in client builds once I figured out I don't get any temp drop with them. (that assumes a cluter free case with a good design.)

Also, AMD does Not recommend using a front fan as they tend to circulate hot aire rather than cool the box down.

HTH

Thanks Rails, I guess that's $20 more towards that 9700 pro.
