Format hard drive that is partitioned
I need an answer to this one pretty quick guys, My friend has a problem with her windows me and wants to format her hard drive and she wants me to help her cos she hasnt done it before. I have formatted my hard drive many times but I have only the one partition on my drive so its pretty easy for me.
She has her hard drive partitioned and doesnt want to lose any of her data and files that she keeps on the second partition. I am not sure of the procedure for formatting a drive that is partitioned and leave the second partition intact. Do I still have to Fdisk or what? Would appreciate a quick reply cos I gotta do it tomorrow. and I dont want to mess it up. She is running ME and the disk has 2 partitions. Okay guys. how do I go about it. I dont want to wipe out her second partition. Of course I also want to reinstall Windows ME on the computer.

All you have to do is format the partition that windows is on, the partition that her data is on doesn't have to be touched. Just be sure that you select the right drive and don't accidently wipe out the data.

Just format the 1st partition... "C" I presume. Boot using a startup disk and give the command, "Format C:" I like to add the flag /u to make it "unconditional". Then install the OS per usual... probably booting from the CD.
