Cable Management

My computer is finally starting to look good. There is a golden/blue colour scheme, and its practically noiseless. The only problem I now face is the cabling. Its a complete mess.

What are your tips for tidy cables?

I personally use round cables and plastic wire ties. I play with routing the wires from the power supply different ways to see which method looks the neatest and then ziptie them into bundles. I also ziptie front panel case wires running them in straight lines.

You can also check this thread out for folding ribbon cables in a neat fashion.

Here's a pic of cabling in one of my cases:

I use round cables, zip strips, and I always get the cables a bit longer so that I route them as I wish

Use twist ties temporarily till you get it looking the way you want, then replace them with zip ties for something more permanent. If you are a constant tinkerer and upgrader, just keep the twist ties. Plastic coated twist ties last a lot longer than paper coated ones. If you use flat cables and fold them, you can use bobby pins to hold them together.

Take your time when trying to clean up your cabling. Use twist ties as glc suggested while you try to get the cable routing figured out and then replace with nylon zip ties when you're happy with the routing.

It usually takes me over half an hour to clean up the cables in my builds. Here's what my computers look like inside...I only use flat IDE cables and I just fold them or tuck them out of the way as best I can (I'm more interested in having clear airways than going for looks)...

I like the way split loom or spiral wrap tidies up the power cables.
