getting critical error when i log on
ok lets start from the begining. yesterday my computer was fine and when i got on this morning it was all set. i was on pretty much all day, untill i had to go to work. now i downloaded a few things in that time. here is a list:
optimal desktop polderbackup ezbackitup yankee clipper netscape radio plus these are the things i installed today. may have dled them yesterday, not sure. also some stuff with bearshare but havent installed anything from there opened one thing but im not thinkin that is the problem. so everything was fine all day. i didnt have one problem, except optimal desktop assoseated my zip files, asked me to reboot and i opted to do it later but was still in my computer. im not sure if this program has anything to do with it. ok well maybe there is a problem or conflict with one of these programs but im not sure. but i turned my comp off when i had to go to work, never did reboot. then i came home from work and i got on my computer and it booted like normal but when i loged in a critical error message came up. i asked my roomate if she was on the computer and she said it crashed on her and restarted while she was online. she said she was only talking on AIM to her sister and she typed a message and hit send and it crashed. she was half asleep when i talked to her and shes asleep now so im not sure if she saw the error when she got back on or not. she has a limited account, not sure if errors show up on there. but after talking to here i got online so i could report the error. and when it was done reporting, my browser came up and microsoft did an analisis of the proplem, wich is the first time ive ever had it do that. and it said that a modem driver was to blame and to go to smartlink and download the latest driver. so i did, wich i should have posted before i installed it but whats done is done. when i scan my computer it doesnt say the name of the modem so i figured it was a smartlink. well i rebooted after install and when i logged in the error came up again and i reported it again and the same thing happened with the analisis and it said the same thing about the smartlink driver... my computer was running slower than normal, could just be coincidence, not sure. im running a virus check as i type and havent found anything yet. oh and i uninstalled the optimal desktop and polderbackup programs before i did a reboot and installed the smartlink modem driver, which i thought might have something to do with it. any idea s to what is going on? my friend has had problems with her computer crashing and rebooting alot and she had to replace the psu and mb and prossesor, under warenty. but i havent had any problems like that in the past. a few times when i first got the comp it crashed but i reinstalled the os myself, as it was prebuilt, and have not had one problem like this since. once again, any clue as to whats going on? thanx in advance for ANY info anyone might have to help me
