Volcano 7: couple questions

Ok, I have a few questions for anyone who has the Thermaltake Volcano 7 HSF or for anyone who has installed it. The CPU that I'm going to be putting it on is an XP1700 T-bred.

Did your HSF come with a thermal pad already on the bottom of the HS? If It did, did you use the thermal pad that is supplied or did you use something else such as Arctic Silver? If you used something else such as arctic silver, how did you remove the pad? I've never bought a HSF with a pad already on it, so whats the best way I should go about getting it off? Maybe I should leave it on? If I do decide to leave the pad on, is there anything special I need to do besides pulling off the protective paper thingy? I guess the CPU will melt the pad forming the bond?

Sry for all the questions, its just I've never had a HSF w/a thermal pad already on it. This pad is black and pretty much just looks like a thin peice of rubber. Also If I decide to use Arctic Silver, whats the best way of getting the pad off the HS? Should I just scrape it off w/a razor and then clean the residue off w/rubbing alcohol?

Thanks for you time.

Hi Jeradln82,

I find that the pre-applied pad works fine for one use. That is, go ahead and use it but if you end up removing the heatsink later on, clean it off and apply AS.

So do I just set the HSF on the CPU then when I fire up the machine the CPU will melt the pad?

This machine will not be under much stress. Its for my dad who just uses word, excel, and the internet for business. It will only be on about 4hrs a day. I might just stick w/the pad, instead of messing w/the Arctic Silver, I don't know...lol

The Volcanos that I have used came clean with a small pack of white thermal compound.
Although the volcanos are fine, a much better HSF and much quieter one is the Speeze FalconRock $9.00 + $5.00 Shipping on Newegg.com. It is not only less money, it looks better!
