Any Dual CPU mobos that run newer stuff like Bartons??

I was looking around for dual proc mobos that are new and have all the features of modern single proc mobos, but can't seem to find any !?!?

CPU prices for the Bartons are so cheap now, I'd love to run a Dually but can find only ancient style boards...

Anybody know of any??

Thanks

The only recent dual-CPU boards I can think of are for the Xeon CPUs.

This is one article I found using modified Bartons. Getting the processor to be recognized in a SMP setup is only half the battle though. Since no SMP motherboard supports 333Mhz FSB, you will have to overclock to get it. I would recommend just using some T'Bred B 2600's. Then you will not have to mess around with cutting/connecting bridges and overclocking.

The MSI K7D Master is in stock at newegg.

Or Athlon64. Right now Opterons would probably cost more than $500 for just the two of the cheapest processors.

Hi Force Flow: Haven't built any Intel boxes since I built 486 DX boxes years ago.... not sure if I'm ready to switch back...

Hi whargoul: Nice links!! I bookmarked them for a "just-n-case." ... but sadly, it doesn't have the "latest" technology, like USB 2, etc., and I'd have to get a bunch of addon cards.

Hi glc: Good point! I am, after all, in no hurry. My A7N8X Dlx pushed by a 2700+ is doing fine... In fact, I'm rendering an 1 1/2 hour home movie right now and still have the umph to be here, and do other things as well, with no noticeable slowdowns.

Thanks for the ideas!!

Oh I see what you mean now. I thought you meant just being able to use dual Bartons. '

I remember seeing something about a SMP nForce2 motherboard from Asus. But it was probably just nothing more than rumour.

Actually, I was just looking, and if you get the K7D Master-L it comes with a USB 2.0 card; as well the L indicates onboard LAN. So short of Firewire, or SATA there isn't much missing that most other mobos come standard with.

Make sure you head over to the 2cpu.com forums. There's plenty of info there regarding which boards are good/problematic along with fixes, tweaks etc. HTH

Dualies are addictive. Have 3 now. Just wish I had something for them to do....
Pay attention to what AMD mobo you get, there is one that has poor pci transfer rates, like 25 megs, tops. Can't remember wich it was tho. Caveat Emptor.

How about getting them busy running a distributed computing project (maybe you are doing this already though)?

Speaking of dinner, pizza sounds grand. A dual cpu pizza, or something like that.
