2500+ or 3000+ for asus a7n8x delux
can this board handle a 3200 barton? it says a 3000 in the specs at newegg. is that the highest it goes? if so is there a big difference in the 2500 barton and the 3000 or 3200?

Yes theres a big difference. the ASUS board you mentioned supports 3200+ but I think you need to flash BIOS or something. Check the ASUS website.

yea i think i just read that. how would i flash the bios if the prossesor i have in the computer doesnt work? or is there something im missing?

is there a noticable difference in the 2500 barton and the 2800 barton? besides the $80 difference lol

If you already have the 2500+ and upgrade to a 2800+ then you won't notice anything. The 2800+ is faster.

im thinking of getting the 2500+ and upgrading later to a 400mhz fsb prossesor. if the upgrade from 2500+ to 3200+ is better than 2800+ to 3200+ then i will make that jump and save the extra money.

you can set the 2500 at 200FSB and 10 or 11 multiplier, they absolutely fly along like that, fast as a 3000

I assume no responsibility for my advice, and is to be taken as advice and thought about seriously and read up on before attempting. If you do OC it that way, take it in steps, if necessary 1 or 2 Mhz steps, test, raise FSB, i dont want you coming to me with a frazzled mobo and/or RAM and/or CPU. There is no guarantee of the performance level your CPU will achieve safely. The only guaranteed level of performance is that which it is rated for. You *should* be able to get these speeds, I have seen these speeds on at least 30 or 40 machines. EDIT - As soon as i have the money for my new build, which will be a 2500+ Barton on a soltek board, this is the speed i am aiming for, of course, if you want to run the RAM synch, its a good idea to buy PC3200 RAM, as while PC2700 might make it to 3200, id rather not risk it Last edited by Spyda; 06-17-2003 at 03:38 PM. |

thanx for the advise. i didnt mean to sound too head strong. i will deffinitly look up everything i can about ocing so i dont fry anything. just the concept gets me all riled up. and i wouldnt blame you for anything stupid that i end up doing! lol
