That doesn't answer the question.

Here's a good place to start:

ok that helps a little. i want to build a dual processor computer using AMD which cpu would be best is the real question i'm trying to ask i guess. like for example intel make the pentium and celeron cpus. the celeron has less memory but is cheaper than the pentium. but thanx

Take a gander at this thread: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=67249

Is there any specific reason why you want to build a dual CPU system?

the only real reason i want to build one is just to have it! i'm just a 16 year old, i have no real use for 2 cpu's. all i really use my computer for is web/graphic design and some sound editing. me and a friend of mine are always trying to out-do each other and this will be one way to beat him!

like i said all i really want with it is to say that i have it! i like the sound of dual AMD Athlon 3200+ CPU's

do you think it wouldn't be such a good idea? that other thread seams to be more for single cpu than dual. maybe i didn't read it right or something.

I wouldn't waste your money on a dual-CPU setup if you won't be doing anything that will take advantage of that kind of setup. Just get a really fast processor, like a 2800+, 3000+, or 3200+ and you should be all set. The AMD Opteron is for servers and not really for use in home systems, the original Athlon is just an older AMD processor that was replaced by the Athlon XP. The XP-M is a mobile version of the Athlon XP designed for laptops because it has lower power consumption and can thus save on battery life. The Athlon MP is another server cpu that has been replaced for the most part by the Opteron and the Duron is just another older AMD cpu that competes with the Intel Celeron.

If you take some time to read some reviews, you will find that the 3200+ is a waste of money and really performs about like a 2800+ should. Yes, you would have bragging rights, but the smart AMD builder right now is using the 2500+ Barton, which is under $100.

If you want a dualie AMD, you have to use the Athlon MP, and except for server and specialized workstation use, it's a total waste of money. The fastest ones use a 266 bus where the 2500+ Barton uses 333 and a single MP 2200 is $136, going up to $289 for a single 2800. Also, how does $200 grab you for a motherboard? - and have fun when you see how much registered ECC ram is for those.
