What are the long black things next to the PCI slots?

Next to my PCI slots or ports whatever there called, there is a black slot similar to the PCI slot but 2 1/2 inches longer. What is it called?

I'm just 20- and had 3 pc's before that have ISA. I thought it is extinct. Still have a modem for the slot.

It's been so long that I almost forgot how to spell ISA.

I'm still running an ISA modem and sound card. New is not always better.

Yes-new is not always better. I don't know why I cannot play games when "upgrading" to PCI-the mobo has no ISA slot. I manage to get a secure line-but when I start playing-the line gets cut. Nothing like this when using the ISA modem. dialup modem.
Yes the new FX is better than the previous. Has anyone read the article at Tomshardware about the graphics card & benchmark thing. Did you see the weird rendering the radeon 9800 was showing in tiger woods 2003. So-if the "the way its meant to be played" is so strong=than all EA games are better on FX?
