Thumbs up CoolerMaster HDD coolers

My two Western Digital "Special Edition" HDDs (80GB, 7200rpm, 8MB cache) were getting uncomfortably hot to touch after running several hours at a time in my system. I tried to take their tempature with a medical thermometer, but they maxed out at 108'F, with the temp climbing steadly before the thermometer quit reading the temp.

Anyway, glc sugested that I go for CoolerMaster HDD coolers. I admit, I was skeptical at first because I didn't think a hunk of metal with a fan in the front would do a whole lot.

I ended up getting 2 CoolerMaster Cooldrive 4002 models. $44 and free shipping for the both of them from newegg.com (that was the deal at the time, anyway).

The neat thing about them is that they have a filter for the fan intake, which will make cleaning easy. They bad thing about them is that the covers that are on the front of the drive bay are gray, while my case is white. Oh well...

At least they work well. My HDDs have only been luke-warm ever since I put them in.

I'll probably will still be using them when I upgrate to 10,000rpm SATA drives when they start to go mainstream.

Overall:
5/5 for performance
3.5/5 for appearance

It should be easy to repaint the covers, the only thing you will lose is the logo.
