Welcome to PCMech, bobbake4!

You may want to get Crucial or Kingston RAM, as they are two of the more relyable brands. You also may want to consider a Lite-On CD drive for the same reason. :0

As for cables, IDE cables should be provided with the motherboard (provided that you are buying it retail, not OEM).

Do you have a case, PSU, monitor, keyboard and mouse?

Power cables should come with the case and/or PSU and the monitor.

[edit]: Also, audio cables should come with the CD drive that go from the CD drive to the sound card.

Instead of getting the Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI 512 get the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital instead.

No, stick with the Sony CD-ROM...Lite-On CD-ROM's aren't that good. It's the Lite-On CD-RW drives that are recommended.

OEM motherboards come with the IDE cables too...but you may only get one 80 wire UltraATA IDE cable and will need a second 40 wire ATA or 80 wire UltraATA IDE cable for the drives on the secondary IDE controller.

SimpleTech RAM is okay to use for your build...it's decent stuff. Make sure you get PC2100 DDR 266 RAM.

Do you know what brand power supply is in the case you already have?

Your basic setup looks good.

Here's something to think about...

You decide to build a new computer and go about picking all the right parts for your build. It takes you awhile because you're trying to be extra sure you pick out the right parts that will match up and work together properly. You worry if you've done a good job with your choices and you have folks on a forum go over your list. They approve. Great...

But you choose a case based soley on price or looks and don't give a second thought about the power supply it comes with.

You order your parts, they arrive and you carefully assemble everything. It's time to finally hit the power switch. You're nervous but excited. You hit the power switch and BANG! The power supply explodes and kills your motherboard, CPU, video card and whatever else it decides to take with it.

The power supply is like the heart of your system. It powers every single thing in there. It's ability to provide clean, stable power to your system is very important. Never, never, never use a cheap, poor quality, no-name power supply. If you do, you're taking a big risk that could leave you crying.

Hi-Q power supplies are total garbage.

Recommend you rethink that motherboard, it's a budget SDRAM motherboard and will NOT run the processor you have chosen, it's a 400 FSB-only board.

Now, what are you going to be using this machine for? I assume that being you chose a motherboard with onboard graphics, gaming is not in its future. With this in mind, look at the D845GEBV2, this has the required CPU support, onboard video, decent onboard sound, and it does have an AGP slot if you decide you need a video card later. This will require DDR ram, PC2700 is the recommended type. Yes, it costs more than the one you chose, but you won't need that SB 512 and DDR ram is actually cheaper than standard SDRAM, so it should be a wash. Spend a few extra bucks on a WD800JB, the increase in cache from 2mb to 8mb is quite noticeable.

All the cables and stuff you need will come with a retail box version of that motherboard.
