fdisk??

Can someone explain to me how fdisk works or point me to a thread or website?

I have never used fdisk. I always use the disk that comes with the harddrives. Last night I tried to use fdisk and got confused. It asked for creating a dos partition, making it active, but I never got to create partitions or format the rest of the drive.

Confused on how fdisk works or what steps to go through in what order.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
