Problems with New CPU and Mobo. Help please

Hi all,

Looking for some help please. I just bought a MSI KT4 Ultra mobo and AMD 2500+ Barton CPU and am having problems.

For some reason I get the 4 red lights which states my CPU is not in correctly or it is no good. I am wondering if it is anything else that might be a problem. I just purchased the new mobo and cpu as well as new memory so I am not sure how there return policy is. I will have to check it out after I am done with this. I also took apart the cpu and heat sink and reassembled but still did not work.

I am at my sister in laws house to post this information so I will stop back here and there as she lives 20mins away so hoping I get this fix soon.

I am not sure of all my specs as I am not home but if you do a search on my name my most recent post has my specs posted.

Thanks in advance for any help on this as I now have know idea what to do.

Forgot to mention stuff was purchased from newegg and I also tried to reassemble my old mobo, etc.. but again the 4 lights came on for my old one that just worked this morning.

Coinsidence? I didn't even touch the CPU when I took out the old mobo.

Try your old procesor in the new motherboard if possible. If it works call new egg and get another processor. They have a very good costumer service policy. I believe they have a 30 day return policy. Wait one last thought. Did u install a heatsink and fan? Most new motherboards i have worked with will shut themselves down if the processor gets too hot.

I'm assuming you bought a new and not refurbished board but it probably wouldn't hurt to try resetting the Bios before you package the thing back up just in case. BTW, my MSI only leaves the 2 top lights red when it encounters a processor hang but that must have something to do with it being an nForce2 board instead of Via's.

What RAM do you have, DDR 400? If so the KT4 Ultra will only support certain manufactures modules>
You did install a Heatsink and fan?

Ok lets see..

Swimmfree,

yes I installed the heatsink and fan, I will try the old cpu and see if that works but not sure because as stated in my other post neither one works now.

Nogaad,

Yes its a new board and per the book it states 4 lights is a cpu problem.

Morris,

I have purchased the 512mb 3200 400 DDR Ram from Corsair and as stated above the heatsink and fan was installed. I noticed it came with a pamflet (sp) stating what memory it was tested with only, mine was not included but it was what it was tested with only and not stating nothing else would work.

I will try my old crucial 256mb cards.

Bailey,

I have a 300watt supply, I hope this is not part of the problem. The mobo booklet says 300 is minium.

Timpoet,

I will check it out.

Thanks all, I will try what suggestions I was given but I have strong doubts.

I will post back later with outcome in the mean time please post anymore suggestions.
