Power, Corruption of HDD...
Can pulling the power power cable from the back of the HDD while it is running Windows cause permanent corruption? I ask this because I accidentally bumped the power lead loose (i think) while my OS was up and running. Now I can't boot into Windows without a blue screen...
 After formatting and re-installing everything is fine...

You could have caused a power spike and damaged the controller circuit. GO to the manufactures site and download/run the diagnostic software and run it. If the drive is still under warranty you can the get a replacement.
Also never work inside the case when the computer is on. First of all it is possible to knock something loose as you have found. And Second there isn't a damn thing that you can or should install adjust or remove while the computer is running. You are just asking for trouble trying to shortcut time by not shutting down first. |

Lol! Thanks for the pep talk morris! I needed that. I tend to monkey around too much in my case period. The drive is working fine (ran diagnostics and it benchmarks perfectly). I think that the windows install was writing or reading something and was corrupted somehow by my power cutting. It said something like "NT could not find..." (on the blue screen).
I now will never mess with wires while the PC is running! |

Actually with Serial ATA it is possible to hot plug, but with parallel ATA it's a bad idea to do this.
I assume that wasn't a Serial ATA hard drive, was it ? RJ
