CD-RW Installation prob
Hey guys, I just bought a Memorex CD-RW drive and attempted to install it. I assumed that it would be ok to make this a slave drive to my cd-rom, am I correct? Anyway, I took the 40-pin adapter in the middle of the IDE cable running from the cd-rom to the mobo and plugged that into the CD-RW drive. I also switched the jumpers on the back of the cd-rw drive to slave. Apparently, I've done something wrong, because when I try to boot up the comp it freezes at a black screen with a flashing underscore. When I remove the IDE cable from the cd-rw drive, I can boot up as usual. I guess I'm asking what I've done wrong in the installation process? Thanks.

Gjc856,
Some cd-rws are happier as master. I had a Sony like that. Try changing the jumper to master on the cd-rw and slave on the cd-rom. Reboot, let the go into the BIOS and make sure the drives are recognized and see what you get. I might add that by your description of the problem, you may have loosened the ide 1 cable to the HDD. Go back in the case and see that everything is in order and the ide cable is pushed in tight. Carl Last edited by Kubie; 07-05-2003 at 11:16 PM. |
