Imation CDRs and Sony Writer

Is it completely impossible to burn Imation CD-Rs using sony CD-Writers? I can't seem to get this pairing to work out. This happened with two different Sony CDWriters (52x24x52 and 40x16x48) and about 3 Imation CD-Rs.

Is it because they're competitors? do these Imation CD-Rs have some kind of pattern on their writable side that prevents the Sony Writer from doing it's job or is it the other way around?

topnode,

When you insert the Imation disk, do you get the pop up to insert one?

My older Sony cd-rw would not burn to anything but Sony disks, however it would read other brands.

I've been hearing about problems with Imation discs in other writers lately too. Got a customer with several Plextor drives that don't like them either, he just tossed a whole spindle and went with Memorex, no problem. Customer with a Sony drive had problems with Memorex and had to get Sony discs, go figure. My TDK (Lite-On) drive hasn't choked on anything - yet.

whats the speed of your Sony writer Raftero? the imation disks i'm using are 80min/700MB 1x-48x compatible.

it seems the only time this combo almost works is when i put the write speed to 8x, I say almost bec. Nero 5 goes thru the motions of writing and actually finishes the writing phase, but when i have nero test the integrity of the copy (verify) , it fails

It's the Imation disks that are the problem. I have a Sony CDRW and a Plextor. For every 1 disk that actually gets written to, 2 disks turn into coasters. If I use ANY other manufacturer's media, I never have a problem.

Have a sony writer, never had a problem with the CD-Rs I used on it (Philips, PNY, TDK) But I would check the speed of the media your using, and then lower the speed of the burn process (From XX Speed to Xx Speed).
Hope That Helps,
-Joe
