Cannot Marry Old with New?
Hi,
I have a Compaq Presario 1075. I would like to know if you can replace the orginial 6GB Hard Drive with a new WD 20 GB? If so where do you find a copy of the emergency recovery CD? Compaq no longers supports this model laptop. There must be someone with the CD or a way to configure the new drive to work with the old laptop. Thanks

The easiest way to swap out the drive is buy one of those Apricorn "EZ-Gig" kits - it's a drive, a PCMCIA adapter, and software. You use this rig to clone the original drive, then you swap it. These aren't cheap though, a 20gb kit is $199. If the bios has an 8 gig limit (likely) it will also install EZ-Bios.
www.apricorn.com WD doesn't make laptop drives. |
