I am buiding a new computer with a Asus P4P800 Deluxe MOBO. I was wondering what kind of RAM I should buy. I want to get two 512MB sticks of DDR400. The owner's manual lists approved modules, but only a few, and none that I want to buy. I want to get KINGSTON HyperX 184-pin 1GB Kit (2x 512MB) DDR400 (PC3200) DDR RAM modules, Model# KHX3200AK2/1G or some Corsair 3200C2 from newegg. Has anyone tried either kind with my motherboard or could anyone recommend one over the other? Also, are these good choices or should I pay the extra $80 for Corsair 3200LL or the like? Thanks.

The manufacturer list doesnt list the ONLY RAM that will work with your system, others will work, those are just some that are guaranteed to work with your system because they were tested with that RAM.
The Kingston Hyper X or the Corsair should work fine.

That's what I was thinking, but I just wanted confirmation. Thanks.
Would there be any noticable difference between the Kingston HyperX KHX3200AK2 (2-3-2-6-1T latancy), the Corsair XMS 3200C2 (2-3-3-6-T1), and the Corsair XMS Low Latency 3200LL (2-3-2-6-T1)? Also, what is the difference between 64Mx64 and 32Mx8 organization and does it make any difference? |

I believe the normal XMS Corsair actually runs CL 2.5 when used in a dual channel config. HTH

yes, but at stock FSB the extra speed is wasted, if not overclocking get PC3200

right but it is so easy to over clock this board everyone is doing it.
in the bios you just set what % you want and it does all the settings, works perfectly |

I have an ASUS P4P800 and am running 2x256 Corsair PC3200. It is not the XMS (which is supposed to be better for OCing), but rather the Value Select. I had no issues.
However, I was told here that there may be some issues when OCing the Corsair/ASUS combination. You may want to look into that here: Official Corsair Memory Support Forum More specifically, look through the Compatibility Questions section. HTH

Thanks for the advice and the heads-up about the Corsair compatability problems. I have decided to go with KINGSTON HyperX Series 184-pin 1GB Kit (2x 512MB) DDR433 (PC3500) DDR RAM modules, Model# KHX3500K2/1G.

Purchasing the paired modules is good for a dual channel setup, as I think I read that they're tested in tandem by the manufacturer. Not that you'd likely have a problem anyway, but that's gotta reduce the chances even more...

the test on this board has come to the conculision that matched set of memory is a waste of money, and not necessary with this board.
nothing is gained by useing it. http://www.asusboards.com/ Last edited by bailey; 07-10-2003 at 01:16 AM. |

I'm using a pair of 512MB Corsair XMS PC3500 DIMMs with that board, and I couldn't be happier.
