Benchmarks aren't the only thing to look for in a motherboard. Relyability and compatibility are huge factors.

Me, I pay no attention to benchmarks. I'd rather seen real-world performance than numbers.

I also don't care about benchmarks for mobos, just for video cards.

You are looking at benchmarks for hand-picked preproduction motherboards that the manufacturers have *given* to the reviewers. Totally meaningless.

GLC - Steadfast dedication to this "conspiracy"

Should I get Mel Gibson to play your role?

It's not a "conspiracy"...it's been long known that motherboard manufacturer's do this to make their motherboards score well on benchmarks done by reviewers. That's why you shouldn't only base your motherboard purchase decision on what you read at review sites...you should read forums like this one to see what the real world performance of a given motherboard is actually like. The ECS K7S5A was a good example...scored awesome in benchmarks done by reviewers, but the off the shelf boards are pretty much hit or miss...some worked great, most were very troublesome to use and some were D.O.A.

Also, I wouldn't go around teasing any of the moderators.

Boards don't always run your FSB at exactly at 100, 133, or whatever they are supposed to. Usually this is only a fraction of a MHz. Alot of reviews I have seen show MSI boards running the FSB alot high than other boards; therefore making it look like they perform alot better. Some of them even automatically try find a "stable" overclock, sometimes as much as 15MHz.

i have caught my MSI board steadily upping the fsb to 139 over the day yesterday, i left it to do it to see what it would do and how far it would go, it went to 139 and stopped, it didnt budge for 9 hours. i locked it at 133 now

Yes, I see my Intel 865perl is right at the bottom of the performance list, what is this, 5% less performance than the top board ? MSI Neo2......oh well at least I can say this, I have build 6 865perl & gbf gaming systems and I have not had one crash or lockup yet.
Which is more than what my mate with his MSI Neo2 (overclocked by the factory by default) and his sons P4P800, both rebooting, locking up and bluescreening all the time, and we have similar systems, same Video cards, ram & drives can say. Oh well...I'm happy with my 5% less performance system.

The point that you can't trust benchmarks is well taken. Sales people always want to put their best foot forward. Handpicked and tweaked samples are standard in every sales pitch from the Ginsiu knife to the latest BMW. Why should motherboards be different. Reviewers should take that factor into account. Some do and some don't. Anyway, quality, ease of use, stability and low return and repair are far more important than a few points on a obscure unreal test.
