Hi all,
I am getting serious headaches now, to continue from my previous posts I have a bunch of new problems. My last post started with my PC not recognizing any drives and devices. When I got home last night I used the Disk the mobo provided and started getting the drives and devices loaded up minus 3 and 1 of them being my ethernet card. No matter what I did I could not load the device and download the new set of drivers, I kept getting a RUNDLL.error. So I then tried the ENUM trick and now have a new list of problems that I wrote down to post here from work. Here is the list of problems I have right now. 1. Enter Network Password Window For some reason I get this new popup window at boot up asking for me to enter my network password for microsoft networking. I have no clue what this is or how to get rid of it, I tried with a password I made up but nothing so I just cancel out of it every boot up. 2. Error Start Up Errors I get the following Errors when I start up my PC all the time stating illegal operation, etc... A) Loadqm B) Datemanager C) Precisiontime 3. Add New Hardware Problems The Big Problems This is the way the devices are listed in my device manager that I can not get. A) ! Direct memory access controller B) ! Nvidia Geforce 5 TI 4200 C) ? PCI Ethernet Controller D) ? PCI Raid Controller (not using Raid) E) ? PCI Universal Serial Bus F) ! Standard 101/102 Key Microsoft natural keypad 3A. I get the following information when I click on each device and load drivers. Direct memory access controller Device status The UDMAD.VXD device leader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (code 2) To fix this, update the drive to update the device driver I tried to do this but I get stuck in the download because I guess I have no internet connection. Nvidia Geforce 5 TI 4200 Device status The device can not find any free Input / Output Range (I/O) resources to use (code 12) If you want to use the device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system that has Input / Output Range (I/O) resource conflict with it In the device manager, the card is listed as well as Standard Display Adapter (VGA) I tried to troubleshoot but did not get anywhere. PCI Ethernet Controller Device status The driver for this device are not installed (code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device click reinstall drivers Everytime I do this I get a RUNDLL.Error message. PCI Raid Controller [i]Device status The driver for this device are not installed (code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device click reinstall drivers Everytime I do this I get a RUNDLL.Error message. Also not using Raid so not sure if this has anything to do with it. PCI Universal Serial Bus Device status The driver for this device are not installed (code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device click reinstall drivers Everytime I do this I get a RUNDLL.Error message. Standard 101/102 Key Microsoft natural keypad Device status Windows can not specify the resources for the device (code 27) Click on the resource tab, and then select the basic configuration for the resources this device uses. To see which resources this devices uses see the documentation for the device I went into the resources tab and got the following information: The device isn't using any resources because it is not currently enabled or has a problem. If you want to assign resources manually for this device click set configuration Don't know what to do here or anywhere. I appreciate if anyone can help me on this, I am so frustrated on what I thought would be a simple upgrade and is turning into a nightmare. I sure hope someone out there can help me. This started when I upgraded my MSI KT266 ultra and I am not using the following specs. 98se 2500+ Barton Asus A7N8X Deluxe 1x 256 2100 crucial memory (I will have 2 x 512 3200 corsair tonight) 2 x 40 gig Hdd Geforce 4 TI 4200 64mb Santa Cruz sound card I am so desperate on getting this fix that I will be willing to call one of you techs long distance tonight to guide me though this. I am in the New york so anywhere in the USA I am willing to call. If someone is kind enough and has little time later tonight and would like to help me, please PM me. Thank you and I apologize for the long post. |

Did you install the motherboard drivers?
Start/Run/type msconfig and uncheck Loadqm, Datemanager and Precisiontime. Personally, I would uninstall Datemanager and Precisiontime.

I installed the mobo drivers before I did ENUM but not after
I was so tired last night trying to get this done, did not even think of that. Will try when I get home and will follow up. The thing is though, mainly with the Ethernet card I had the same problem pre doing the ENUM trick and with the mobo drivers installed, that RUNDLL error. What could be the problem here? |

As for the others, you'll have to search the motherboard driver CD. ("properties" on a device > update/install driver > browse the CD's folders until it takes something) The same with the video card, search the video card driver CD.

I still think a re-format is your best option. Your 98SE CD should be bootable, so change the boot order in your CMOS setup so as to list the CD first. After that, it's pretty much self explanatory. If your CD is not bootable, you'll need a 98SE boot disk.

if you dont want to reformat copy the win98 folder from your cd to the c: drive and then do the enum trick agen make shor the computers in safe mode when you do the emum deleate then reboot the computer and go to add new hardwair in controle panall let windows find and install the defult drivers
when it asks for the wincd point it to the win98 folder you copyed to your hdd reboot whenever it asks when it finished finding every thing put your mobo cd in the cd drive and run the setup programs on it all so if you have the driver disk for your network card use that next and last get the drivers for your vid card

Thanks for your help guys, I kind of fixed the situation.
Solution was I bought windows XP home edition. I started thinking that it had to do with 98se so I gave it a try. I still have problems such as certain devices with question marks and such but I am up and running on all programs. I have microsoft support for my install so I will have them work me through the device problems. Thanks again, and I will check the bios out in reference to the raid Andy. |

Before reading your last reply I was going to mention that you might want to consider upgrading to win2k or XP. Those OS's handle IRQ's a lot better than 98se. On the other hardware, did you try installing the drivers again? HTH
