Welcome to PCMech!

On the AMD side, I'd go with an nForce2 chipset based motherboard. However, you may want to wait and see how the new VIA chipset pans out over the long run to see if any problems or conflicts arise with boards based on the chipset (I'm assuming you're talking about the VIA KT600?). For a processor, stick the newer Barton cores which have a higher FSB speed and more cache than the Thoroughbreds. The 2500+ is a great processor and it can be found for like $80 or $90 online. I'm pretty much an AMD guy so I can't really comment on any Intel chipsets or boards. As for the video card, go with either a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 or a Radeon 9500/9500 Pro or even a 9600/9600 Pro. Avoid the GeForce FX 5200's as they are really slow cards and don't do well in games. The Ti 4200 is relatively inexpensive but lacks Direct X 9 support. However, it's still a great card. There really isn't a recommend max to overclocking, just go as far as you can until the system starts to become unstable and locks up on you.

You're welcome. I find that ncix.com may not have the absolute best price, but they're within a dollar or two, and you save in shipping by purchasing everything in one place.
Their support is excellent, and RMA's are painless and fast.

Yup. Ncix has a pretty nice store, and prices are all the same as on the web. They also have discounts that you can only get when you're there, plus there's no shipping cost!
I wouldn't bother with Vibe though, their pricing is always 3 months out of date, and you never know what's what.
