computer stopped working! what's wrong??

so the computer my mom and brother use for surfing and typing papers suddenly stopped working and i can't figure out what exactly is wrong. first of all, it's a p2 300mhz oc'ed to 450 and has been running fine for say...4 years? it's running on xp by the way. so the power works fine, but nothing happens. no beeps, nothing on the screen. first of all, i tested the videocard. i put in my videocard and it worked for a few minutes, then suddenly turned off. when i tried to turn it on it made some weird beeping. i put back the old video card (voodoo3 3000) and it turned on! but then it shut off again by itself. it then would turn on, but did the same thing as before, no beeps, no screen. i switched the power supply, no result. i tested each stick of ram thinking maybe one of them went bad, no result. i put the hard drive in my computer, it worked fine. i don't know what's wrong, especially since it worked when i put in my video card and it worked for a few minutes, and same with the old video card. i don't think there are any loose connections, i checked everything several times over and over. what else can be wrong? i'm completely mystified.

Weird, my cpu is doing it on Start up, well...used to. You're going to have to call tech support and hope there's someone who understands what's going on with you're cpu and not on for a total of 16 hours in 2 days.

If the CMOS reset doesn't work then you have had a board fail, cpu failure, or RAM Failure. Since the CPU was overclocked it is possible that the inside of the case got dirty and it over-heated.
Can you decribe the beep pattern you get when you turn it on as this is for troubleshooting.

what board do u have?, as there are beep code lists on this site for different types. like morris said, its a board or cpu failure, but i doubt memory because theoretically you should still get beep codes for that. id check the cpu 1st as it was overclocked -4 years of 150mb overclocking on an older cpu could have taken alot out of it.

oh yea, i tried clearing the cmos before, it didn't help. i guess i could put back my video card and see if it beeps again, but last time i did it, nothing happened. so the problem could only be the motherboard, cpu, or ram, right? i suspected the cpu or motherboard, but i wasn't sure.
