Install new hard disk, what should I do really?

Hi,
I bought a new harddisk and want to install it into my current pc. I want to clean install XP into the new disk and also keep my old disk as slave to keep my data. The old disk is already partitioned into c: and d: with partition magic with xp installed.

The problem is, i'm not sure what are the actual procedure to do all this. I followed the 'Installing A Hard Drive - Step by Step By David Risley' but get stucked. How should i format and partition both of my harddisks? Since the old already partitioned as c: and d:, how should i format & partitioned the new disk.

After getting 'phisically' install the new hard disk, what next? Should i format and partition the 'new' disk when installing XP? or use Fdisk? or partition magic?

I'm a beginner and desperately need some advice on the proper procedure to carry out the 'plan'. Thanks in advance!

Remove your existing hard drive and install the new one. Make sure the jumper is set properly for the type of IDE cable you're using.

Start the computer and go into BIOS. Change the first boot device to the CD-ROM. Put your WinXP CD in the CD-ROM drive and Save and Exit the BIOS. Your system will boot up to the WinXP CD and the WinXP installer will take over. Follow the on screen instructions.

After WinXP is installed on the new hard drive you can then create more partitions using Disk Management. Create the partitions you want and format them.

Turn off your computer and install the old hard drive. Make sure the jumper is set properly. Turn on your computer and go into BIOS. Change the first boot device to either the floppy drive or the hard drive. Make sure both hard drives are recognized by the BIOS. Save and Exit the BIOS.

WinXP will load up and you can use Windows Explorer to move your data from the old hard drive to the new one. After you've moved your data, use Disk Management to format the partition WinXP is on. You can also use Disk Management to remove or create new partitions on the old hard drive and format them.

When you're done, you should have two hard drives...one with WinXP installed on it and the other to use for data storage.
