Help me find the proper drivers
I have 2 errors in device manager and a problem with my monitor display.
System: Soyo SY-K7V Dragon Motherboard AMD T-bird 1.4ghz 512 of DDR 20 GB HD Windows 98 The errors are: PCI Ethernet Controller PCI Multimedia Audio Device These two are a part of the mobo from what I understand, there are no drivers for the Ethernet Controller on the mobo driver CD, but there are drivers for the audio device. I have the audio drivers installed and I still get the error in device manager. The problem with my display is that I can only get at best 16 colors @ 640x480. I have searched all over for drivers on the net and there is nothing in the mobo CD. I have a Gateway system restoration CD with drivers for the monitor (my origional system was a Gateway and I am still using the monitor with the new system) but I dont get the option to install them when using my new system I do get the option with my old Gateway system. There are other drivers on that CD that I am able to install (modem, multifunction keyboard) on both systems, but not the drivers for the monitor on the new system.Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks |

You mean the audio and network cards are onboard? best is to open the pc and look on the motherboard and cards chipsets (usually the bigger black ones)
for info on the actual manufacturer and type. i just found onboard drivers for your mobo on the soyo site. http://www.soyousa.com/downloads/sel...08&col3=Driver have you tried these? for the vidcard, do you mean you use your old pc's vidcard or just the monitor? if the monitor doesnt work, it might be too old, monitors dont have drivers. if its the video card you mean, its basically the same, look on the card itself for manufacturer and type . i dont know gateway (not sold around here) so i dont know what they use for parts.

In my opinion gateway's are crap. MY mother got one of there computers in 99 and we used there internet service, as soon as we canceled there internet stuff went wrong,(ex.-audio, keyboard, video, system started on its own) and they said the only way they could help us was to send it to them and pay 500$ to have anything fixed.

Thanks grasshopperbe, I already had tried those drivers with no luck. However I played around with them some more and got the two errors figured out. I had to display the drivers and pick one instead of having Windows search for the best one for them to work.
Still havent straightened out my display problem. I found a part number on the video card (28033520-001) and found that I have a Diamond S3 Savage4 LT Video Card. I tried to update the Display Adapter driver through device manager by selecting the manufacturer and model but haven't found the right one yet. Under manufacturer there are both Diamond Multimedia Systems and S3 available, however there is no option for Savage4 in either of them. I'm gonna keep searching the net. I hope my monitor isnt to old, it has a date of January 1999 on the back. Thanks again. |
