grounding strap?

i don't use a grounding strap when i work on my pc. but i do always touch metal and i work on non-carpeted floors. should i get one?

is there any danger in having your computer on a carpeted floor? i have a big-ass chieftec case and its really not fitting on my desk very well.

The chieftec cases have the feet on the bottom, so they really aren't in contact with the floor. The case is also grounded through the PSU, so static discharge isn't going to be a likely problem.

As far as the wrist strap - I only use mine when working on a carpeted surface, and like you, I touch something metal before starting with anything.

To be on the safe side I constantly wear my wrist strap when I'm working in my computer. Only way to be 100% safe is to be constantly grounded. After you take your hand off the case and are no longer grounded, you are still building up a charge. It only takes a small charge to short something out. Personnaly I'd rather be safe than sorry when working with expensive hardware..
