I could use some suggestions on which Antec case to get. Im planning to to do my first total custom build so i havn't had much experience with cases other then working on the OEM cases i have had from Hewlett Packard. I've been sorta pulled between an Antec case and a Chieftec case because of them being so close in resemblence and so i wonder which one is the better build. I've been looking into possibly the Antec Plusview 1000 AMG. Any and all suggestions on Antec or Chieftec cases would be much appreciated.

I suggest the chieftec Mtrix style case. Here's a link that has pics and info on all the matrix series cases.
http://store.yahoo.com/directron/matrix1.html I got mine because of the front bezel, and if you put in led fans or other lights you can see them through the lower part of the case, looks realy cool at night . And if you get some of the EL wire you can put it in the grove that runs along front of the case, gives a realy cool glow.

Antec doesn't manufacture their own cases, they get them made to order by case manufacturer's like Chieftec and Chenming...that's why the Antec and Chieftec are so similar. Building into either case will be a similar experience.
When looking for cases, make sure they have the right number of drive bays you require and that they have a good quality power supply in them. Antec power supplies are good as well as the Chieftec power supplies. Most of the Antec cases are nice to build with (I don't care for the LanBoy though). Your choice may just come down to price. Well newegg.com is out of stock on the Antec im looking at today even though they had it a couple days ago
. Luckily the ETA on their new shipment of them is 8/11/03 which is today . I hope im not makeing a mistake by going with a server style case since im sure its rather heavy, but the case i have now is heavy also so i dont think it will bother me too much and im looking forward to the added space. Does anyone know if this Antec case has USB 2.0 support?

burningrave, welcome to PC Mech!
Take a look at the dimensions of the case, and just make sure the size is ok. Antec cases are high quality, and very nice to work in. You won't regret getting one. When I got mine, I was surprised by how tall it was, but that was quickly overcome by how increadibly easy everything was to work with. |

Well the pc i have now is around 15.5" tall and this Antec is 20.6" which isn't too bad i dont think. I can't wait to have all that room to really get my elbows and arms in there and work on stuff and not have all those IDE ribbons and PSU wires jammed togethor in the fans and everything else. I'll get some of those LONG Antec round cables for hooking up all my devices so i dont have to worry about the IDE ribbons being too short. Heres the one i plan to order from newegg:
ANTEC Performance PLUSVIEW LE (Limited Edition) Model PLUSVIEW1000AMG LE - with Side Window Snap-On Fan Clips & Antec Case Straps Retail ***No Power Supply*** Total Price - $99.99 (free FedEx Shipping on this model) Of course it doesn't come with a power supply but i like this Limited Edition one because theres 15.00 dollars shipping on the regular model and the LE comes with a free $40 dollar Strap Harness. I'll probably go with something like a 400 watt Antec power supply. I hope i can find one farely cheap. Although im thinking twice about it now and maybe going with the following model might be better even though it doesn't have the side window i had wanted . ANTEC Performance PLUS Model PLUS1080AMG- with Antec Original TRUE 430W P4 Power Supply ATX12V Retail Last edited by burningrave101; 08-11-2003 at 02:22 PM. |

Side panels with window. Will fit that case, as the dimensions of the Antec 1080 series are the same as the plusview 1000AMG. |
