Detection Memory Size Problem
Hi
I have got an Intel Celeron processor on a gigabyte GA-6WMMT motherboard with 64 meg of PC100 SDRAM. My manual says it will go up to 512 SDRAM. So i bought a sticks of 256 PC133 SDRAM and when I look at the system information it only recognised this stick as 126 meg. Anyone know why and how to solve this. I have also tried another 256 different make and it does exactly the same. It was my understanding that a PC100 system would accept PC133 but it would just clock down. Help Guys Jules |

are you putting them in just one stick at a time?
If so, do you have onboard graphics? If you do the 2mb that you seem to be missing ay be reserved for the graphics, and the other for the rest of the system. Does your bios recognize the entire 256? |

I am trying them a stick at a time. There is nowhere in BIOS to detect memory. I changed shared memory from 64 meg to 16 meg and that increased the memory size from 126meg to 127meg. I am using 256 SDRAM PC133
Any Ideas |

I read recently where some PC133 is not backward compatible to PC100 due to memory timings. Think it was at Crucial's web site. You might try using the Crucial or Kingston Memory Configurator and see what kind of recommendation they give. If 133 will work, that should come up as an option. Here's a link to the Kingston for your board. They show only Pc100 tho'. Best of luck.

Is this memory single sided or double sided?
Single Sided = little black chips on one side of the memory module Double Sided = little black chips on both sides of the memory module |

For the particular motherboard you have it probably can only accept a 256MB stick of PC100 or PC133 double sided memory in each DIMM slot.
