Whats a good bit monitor?
I just bought a new monitor at a computer show for 65$. It's a 17'' Flat Screen(not flat pannel) CRT. Its 24DPI(dots per inch or pixels per inch what ever the measure is). Can anyone let me know if this was a good buy or is 24DPI obslete? Thanks.

I believe about 28 dots per inch is about the standard nowadays.

When it comes to DPI (Dot Pitch), the lower the number, the better.... so if the monitor is working good, it was a good buy.
DPI in a monitor is the measure in millimeters how far apart each pixel is.... for your monitor, each pixel is 0.24mm apart from each other.

HAL is correct lower is better. the actual measurement is hundreths of a millimeter. the number (ie .24 dot pitch) is the distance from the center of 1 phosphor dot to the center of the next closest phosphor dot of the same color. the lower the number, the closer the dots, the better the picture.
As an historical note: dot pitch also came into play (and was very important) when impact dot matrix printers were the "standard" type of printer in the computer world. again, the lower the number, the more realistic the type looked. |
