Do this have to match?

Hey guys,
im building a pc and i was wondering if the chipset on the video card and motherboard have to match? and what are chipsets on motherboard?

No the chipsets do not have to match. The motherboard chipset is basically what drives the motherboard and it's features. As for the second question, topics of software piracy do not belong here at PCMech.

Well, that is unless you use an nvidia mobo (K7N2) and a ati(95/6/7/8/900) card. In certain instances you'll have many problems, whereas the same system with a nvid card will be fine.

If it boots fine, there ya go, in my case the ati card would make the boot screen script corrupted. It went downhill from there. This is a common malady of msi (k7n2-wich has the nforce2 chipset) and ati. Nice if it hadn't gone the way it did, the 9500 was one fast card...
Just keep an eye out for anything unusual.

by nvidia boards im gonan assume you mean chipsets.

My 9600 pro runs fine with my Nforce.
