installing windows with CD Rom

I have no A drive and I have to install windows 98 so therefore I need a CDROm that is bootable. I think I need thecab files that will install the windows 98 .
I have a CD Rom that is supposed to be the recovery disk for the HP computer but isn`t the right one or else computer was rebuilt and now the CD rom won`t work anyway I can get a CD rom to show up but I do not have some files that I need to install windows 98. I am not even sure a bootable CD rom would be picked up by this computer as it is a different CD rom than one that was in there at the beginning/.
Is their anyway I can get the files necessary to install windows 98 or can I copy windows 98 from D drive directly to hard drive. Just something I am working on and am at a loss how to do it.
The A drive connection does not work on this computer. why their isn`t any on it

Well the Windows 98 CD is bootable, so you can boot from it.
But I didn't understand the part with the HP recovery CD. Is your PC the HP ? If not, the CD won't work anyway as the CD will only work with the HP that it was shipped with.
If you have a plain Windows 98 CD then you can boot from it. If the HP recovery CD is for your system then it should be bootable as well.

I have a windows 98 CD rom but I cannot boot from it as the CD rom drive will not show up . I do have a an HP computer but it was bought as a refurbished one and any of the CD revcovery disks that they gave me says it is the wrong CD rom and I have had two different ones sent to me.
I can put the the disks in the CD rom a notice comes up and says that it is the wrong model of recovery disks and than it loads the CD Rom drivers and once theyare loaded I putthe 98 CD rom in and put setup and it than says it is the worng command.
So am thinking I need something else to install win 98. so that is what I am looking for.

What do you mean with "CD ROM drive will not show up" ?
Is the boot order in BIOS set to boot from CD-ROM first ? Is the CD-ROM set to AUTO in standard cmos setup ?
Have you tried the other optical drives if the PC has more than 1 ?
You shouldn't need anything else than the Win98 CD to install Win98.

is it not possible that the cd is not recognized until drivers for it are loaded?

Rememebr that this is a hp (?) and the OS is 98 so we are talking about the time frame when a boot cd actaully also had a floppy, the floppy got the system to read the cd and then from there you were fine.

Some older CD ROms don't read CDRW media.
Better to burn the drivers on a CDR instead.
If you're putting them on CDs, why do you need to put them on floppy ?
