the componets I have?
I took possesion of a older computer yesterday and would like to know how to get the specs on the hardware. I cannot access windows as its missing some programs, but I have opened the case. The only thing I can recognize is the pentium II. How do I tell what motherboard I have and procesor speed?

What is the make of the machine? Does it have series number on the case? Some companies such as Gateway have extensive driver archives that go back for quite a few years with driver sets ready to download for your specific comp config. I have used these type of things several times to rivive old machines. One thing though, If you do find one of these jems, make sure you store a copy on the hard drive of the comp and maybe even make a backup copy because if you ever need it again it might not be there. Anyway, try searching the manufacturer's web site to see what you can find for your series/model. Good luck!

He's unable to use belarc as windows is not working.
If the PC can boot, the bios info is show briefly during startup. Copy the numbers. This tells us what the motherboard is. Also, go into the bios. It should tell you what basic stuffs you have - processor speed, harddrive model, ram. |

If you can get into the CMOS setup it may give you some information on the system.

1. The motherboard has an Award BIOS version 4.51
2. The system has a Pentium 2 300MHz, Slot 1 type processor 3. The system has a 64MB of PC66 or PC100 SDRAM installed If you actually press the "DEL" key to enter the CMOS setup you may be able to find out some more information such as the hard drive size. |

4. There is a 4.3GB hard drive set as master on the primary IDE channel installed in the system
5. The motherboard is also a hybrid motherboard which can accept either EDO or SDRAM memory modules 6. There is one SDRAM memory module that is double-sided (black chips on both sides of the memory module) installed in the system or there could be two SDRAM memory modules that are single-sided (black chips on only one side of the memory module) installed in the system 7. There is a CDROM drive set as slave on the secondary IDE channel (this may be wrong because if there is no other device on the IDE channel the CD drive should have been jumpered as master or single) Last edited by minsonngo; 08-20-2003 at 07:21 PM. |

It should run fine. A while back I ran Windows XP Professional on a computer with a 350MHz Intel Pentium II processor, 64MB of PC100 SDRAM, 4MB ATI AGP video card, and a 6.4GB 5400RPM hard drive just fine and dandy for a little over one year until I sold it.

You may want to jumper the CD drive on the secondary IDE channel to master instead of slave since it is the only device on that particular IDE channel.

Forget that edit button again minsonngo?
I would get more RAM before I through 200pro on there, the board probably tops out at about 256, maybe even 128, but other than that, yes it will accpet 2000pro Windows 2kpro minimum system requirements Computer/Processor 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU. Memory At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM; more memory generally improves responsiveness. Hard Disk 2 GB with 650 MB free space. Last edited by avx; 08-20-2003 at 07:34 PM. |
