Choosing an Optical Drive

Trying to decide on a good optical drive. I definitely need both CD-RW and 16x DVD capability. These combos at Newegg seem like good deals, and since it’s just one drive, would mean less time spent installing hardware.

http://www.newegg.com/app/Viewproduc...&srchFor=cd-rw

In case the link doesn’t work, the products are:

TEAC 48X24X48X12 INTERNAL EIDE CD-RW/DVD DRIVE MODEL DW548D002 2MB Cache – OEM: $60

Samsung CDRW/DVD Combo Drive 52x24x52 CD-RW 16x DVD (Black) 2mb Cache, Model SM-352BENB – OEM: $69

LG ELECTRONICS DVD COMBO 52X24X52 CD-RW/ 16X DVD-ROM, MODEL GCC-4520B – Retail: $71

What do you think? Seems like the TEAC runs a little slower for a little cheaper, but I don’t care if my CDs take 5 more minutes to burn. I mostly just want stability and reliability; the specs are all pretty much the same. If you think individual DVD and CD-RW drives are a better bet, please give suggestions.

Between the two CDRW's you have listed I would go with the TDK. Have you thought about a Lite-On CDRW?

I prefer seperate DVD and CDRW myself. Easy to make B/U copies of your software and if one bites the dirt you can stay operational.

I would also recommend a separate burner and DVD, however, I really like the LG stuff, and would pay the extra for it, instead of the Samsung. I have no problems with LG burners and DVD players, as well as normal CD-ROM's, and have a bunch in mine, and my customer's computers. Never a problem.

TDK came out with a DVD Burner at 4x; has anyone have any insight on that device?
