screen is blinking
I have a Compaq Presario 1200US notebook and for some reason, the screen blinks. It only happens when the screen doesn't have any pressure on it.....for instance, the screen hinges have some play in them (and if you know how to fix that, it would help also) and the screen will constantly blink unless I push the screen to where it has some resistance against the hinges. I was wondering how difficult it would be to take the thing apart and see if I could fix it. Anyone who has done any work on laptops would probably be able to help. Thanks in advance

It could just be a loose or broken connection. Usually it's just a couple screws to take out, then snap the front cover off the display to reveal the power connection and hinge guts.

I'm just worried that, by taking it apart, it might make the problem worse. Do you think that it would be a loose monitor cable? Also, how would I go about tightening the hinges?

it's possible it's a loose cable, or a broken power wire (there is usually a ribbon, and a 2 wire connection). It's possible that the loose hinge is just some loose screws... put some locktite on them and tighten them down again.
