Creative Awe 64 ISA
I need a bios flash for this sound card. I have been all over the Creative Website trying to find a Bios upgrade for this card but I can't find one...I know there should be one. I no longer have the CD for this sound card, it may contain a bios flash program. I hvae the drivers downloaded from creative but they don't fix this problem... Here is what the Device Manager has to say about this card. "This device is not working because the bios in the device manager is reporting the resources for the device incorrectly (code 9) Contact the device manufacturer to get an updated bios for your device." Hardware verison is 1.0.10 In case you want to know I am running win98. |

I wouldn't doubt it if the device manager is misdiagnosing the problem. I have installed a very old Sound Blaster 16 card in a more modern PC with no problems. The biggest problem with sound cards is they are usually fussy about IRQ's. I think they prefer a certain slot, if it is PCI, I would try slot 3 first, then 2, then 4. I'm not really sure which one they prefer -(just edjucated guesses).

I am trying this in an older system, but I have had these card installed in this board before...Hmmmm, I have 3 ISA slots and i am using all of them. an ISA modem, Network card, and a different sound card(different brand) and they all work.
I will try that card in another machine tomorrow... |

Byte, is the card using IRQ5. SoundBlasters are VERY fussy about obtaining IRQ5 EXCLUSIVELY. I had 50 systems to set up for a school board and on every one of them the NIC took IRQ5 and the SB took IRQ9. Had to manually reconfigure each one to switch that around, then no problem.
Not sure about this, but I don't think there is any kind of flashable BIOS on the SoundBlaster 64.

ISA tends not to work the way PCI does. Changing slots doesn't necessarily change IRQ. It takes a bit of messing around in device manager. The biggest pain can be the NIC, getting it moved and operational.
