Need advice on memory
Hi,
I need some advice on what memory to put in my build... I've got some ideas of what i want but I need some advice since I don't know a lot bout memory. I want to know if dual channel memory such as the corsair twinx512-2700 or ocz 333512ELDL will take two slots on my card or just one? I also want to know what's the best mem, dual chan for 512 (2X512) or a simple corsair or ocz 512ddr slot? Their prices in cdn$ are quite different, the ocz being the cheepest of the two(by 40 to 50$)... which one should I go with... and if you have advice on brand better for the buck or else I'd like to know too... By the way I build on an Asus A7N8X DX Rev.2 - Barton 2800+ WD120G"JB" - Asus GF FX5800 128ddr - Viewsonic 19" And the system is mainly for intense gaming. |

Yes the TwinX or the OCZ memory will take up two RAM slots on the board since at least two modules are needed in order to run them in dual-channel mode. Corsair and OCZ are both great manufacturers so it really only comes down to price. I don't think you're getting anything better by spending more for the Corsair. You may also want to take a look at the Kingston HyperX series...it may be a little cheaper but I'm not sure. I'm not really sure what you mean by the second question.

Second question means... is it the same if I buy i single slot of 512mb... or dual chan really is way faster than a single one?

It's not way faster...only like a 5% increase in performance, but if you can go dual-channel then you should. If don't have the money for 2 512 sticks, then just get 2 256 MB sticks. 512 MBs of RAM is sufficient for mostly everything out there nowadays.
